First Generation Mahindra Scorpio 2002 – Present
Launched in India to much fanfare in July 2002, the Scorpio was such a massive hit with the car-buying public in India that it received its first upgrade shortly afterwards, which added a model variant that included plush seats, a rear centre armrest, dual-tone exterior colour options, and various addition styling and comfort improvements. Due to its ongoing sales success, the Scorpio SUV has received 3 distinct facelifts and upgrades since its launch. These are as follows: First Facelift (Mahindra Scorpio 2006-2009) Launched in April of 2006, this improved version of the Scorpio also included a pickup truck model variant which was launched in India in June 2007. This was known as the Scorpio Getaway. During 2008 this version of the Scorpio also received an updated 6-speed automatic transmission. Second Facelift (Mahindra Scorpio 2009-2014) The second facelift done on the Scorpio was more than cosmetic and also included significant safety upgrades ensuring that this popular SUV now came standard with ABS brakes and airbags. Third Facelift (Mahindra Scorpio 2014-Present) This third iteration of the generation one Scorpio includes the most popular model year sold in South Africa to date – the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio! Updates included a redesigned front and rear as well as a new and improved dashboard. Additionally, a revised automatic variant of the Scorpio was launched in 2015 and this has also proven to be popular as a used vehicle. Did You Know? The Scorpio was originally sold in Europe as the Mahindra Goa with first sales occurring in Italy in 2003, a year after it was launched in India.
